Prairie Green Homes - Architecture Meets Environment

Architecture and the Philosophy of Prairie Green

One of the basic tenants of architecture is that the structure, whatever it may be, relate in some way to its surroundings. At Prairie Green, one is immediately struck by the open plains feel of the 36 acre parcel. It is almost unique in the Bloomington landscape.

When we began the development process one of the most important ideas that we were hoping to accomplish was to create a neighborhood that featured architecture that reflected the feel of the landscape and to have homes that didn’t look alike, but did bear a certain relationship to each other…an architectural cohesiveness so to speak.

The Prairie and the Craftsman schools of architecture are two styles which relate well to the plains landscape and work well together. Both styles developed in response to the overly embellished Victorian styles. These were architectural styles which were more of a reflection of nature and made an effort to blend the outdoors with indoor living spaces.

Our goal has never been to stifle the creativity of our clients or their architects, but to allow them a framework in which to be creative. We want to take the best parts of these historic styles of architecture and recreate it with today’s technologies and materials, including creating a superior energy efficient, environmentally sound, and healthy home.
